Meet some of our volunteers

Meet some of our volunteers and hear about their volunteering experiences.

CA volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and volunteer with us for different reasons.

Judith has been volunteering with Diss Citizens Advice for 3 years and volunteers 4 days per week.

“I believe that we should all spend our time constructively, volunteering enabled me to do that. I had some spare time. I have visual loss, which has presented a few challenges but volunteering with Citizens Advice has given me a purpose, a goal, a reason to get up in the morning”.

Robert has been an Adviser for over 2 years and volunteers once a week.

“I volunteer for something to do and to work with a lovely bunch of volunteers. It has given me a sense of fulfilment and well-being. I love being needed”.

Laura has been volunteering for about six years and comes into the Diss CA office twice a week.

I first came to do work experience at the Diss Citizens Advice when in year 10 at high school and my mother used to be an adviser at the Diss Citizens Advice. When I was doing my work experience, I was very inspired by how the volunteers helped people and improve their lives, so later I decided I wanted to help too.Volunteering at the Diss CA has opened my eyes to the daily issues that people face and the struggles they have. It has made me want to help people even more and has challenged some of my assumptions I held before volunteering at the Citizens Advice. I love meeting new people and chatting to them. I like making a difference to people’s lives, to give them hope and to reassure them that they are not alone”.

Patrick is one of our Advisers who has been with Diss CA for up to seventeen years. He volunteers once or twice a week.

My wife wanted to get me out of the home when I had fully retired – and thought it was something I would be quite good at. I also wanted to do something that would be useful and rewarding. Helping people who are often vulnerable and dealt with badly by local authorities, government departments, utilities companies etc. Some case are quite challenging, which I enjoy”.

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, including Black, Asian Minority Ethnics (BAME) volunteers, disabled volunteers, volunteers with physical and mental health conditions, LGBTᵻ and non-binary volunteers, to join our service.
