Smart Energy GB

Working in partnership with Smart Energy GB

At Citizens Advice we provide energy advice on a wide range of issues – from help getting grant or extra support, to shopping around for a better tariff and identifying ways to make your home more energy efficient.

Every year we help people who have trouble with energy bills due to estimated meter readings. According to Ofgem, energy companies are only required to read energy meters every 2 years, so if you can’t read the meter yourself or have difficulty submitting your meter readings to your supplier, your bills may be inaccurate (over or under estimated.)

Smart meters are the next generation of gas and electricity meters. Smart meters automatically send readings to your energy supplier at least once a month, so you will receive accurate, not estimated bills and no more meter readings.

Smart meters come with an in-home display screen that shows you exactly how much energy you’re using in pounds and pence, in near real time so you can see how much energy you’re using. You can identify the gadgets that guzzle power on your in-home display’s (IHD) traffic light system. It will encourage everyone in your household to adopt good energy habits and potentially use less.

Smart Energy GB is the campaign for a smarter

Britain. It’s our task to help everyone in Great Britain understand smart meters, the national rollout and how to use their new meters to be cleaner and greener with their energy use.

They’re being installed by energy suppliers in every home in England, Scotland and Wales.
